Voices in Education
So much focus in eastern Kentucky is about deficiencies and poor performance by students or educators. Voices in Education will celebrate the positive stories in the region’s local communities.
The voice comes from students who are benefitting from new technologies, improved curriculum and community involvement. Stories by students demonstrate the value of education. They show how today’s experiences are on the cutting edge of educational advancement.
Forward in the Fifth is hosting a student video website to highlight positive aspects of education. Students in middle and high school produce short videos about something they think is exciting in their school community. Students then upload their production to: www.voicesineducation.org. The website contains qualifications and rules for the annual competition, as well as free video editing software and movie making tutorials.
Student videos focus on innovative programs in several categories. Examples may include strong curriculum, powerful teaching strategies, volunteer programs or personal stories.
Forward in the Fifth is working with the Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative, the University of Pikeville and local school districts to support this project.
